I would like to introduce myself, I trained at The London School of Classical Dance with Molly Lake and Travis Kemp, going onto study with Richard Glasstone and gaining my Licentiate with distinction and my fellowship with the ISTD.
In 1984 I established The Lewis Academy of Dancing, renowned for excellent training in ISTD Cecchetti Ballet, ISTD Modern, Jazz and Tap. My pupils have achieved excellent results in their grade and major examinations, many gaining distinction.
As well as winning prestigious awards such as the Mabel Ryan and the Cecchetti Choreographic Competition, my pupils have also performed at The Royal Opera House, Sadlers Wells and Her Majesty’s Theatre, London.
My alumni have gone on to train at The Royal Ballet School, Arts Educational Schools, Central School, Rambert School, Laine Theatre Arts, London Studio Centre, Guildford School of Acting and Brits Academy.
Students at the Devon Dance Centre have enjoyed performing on stage with Wayne Sleep, Su Pollard, Jan Leeming, Jimmy Cricket and Russian Ellen Kent Ballet Company.
I am very excited to be working with your wonderful children, who I have had the pleasure of not only teaching but watching them work hard and dance beautifully. Every child I have met has been motivated, well turned out and charming a testament to the excellent training of the school and I am looking forward to a long and happy association with you and your children.
The Devon Dance Centre has a broad range of courses that cover Ballet, Modern, Jazz ,Tap and Musical Theatre for all ages, which we run from Cary Court Studio. We work closely with the ISTD and prepare children for the ISTD Cecchetti Ballet, Modern and Tap examinations if this is their chosen route. (More can be found on the ISTD website)
Children are given the opportunity to perform in our school production, to enter the Mabel Ryan at Sadlers Wells, audition for the Royal Ballet Associates, audition for the Cecchetti Associate and the Cecchetti Scholarship classes, to choreograph their own dance for the Cecchetti Choreography Competition and perform in local dance festivals.
All teachers at the school continue with CPD (Continual Professional Development) to keep up to date with changing teaching practice, learn new skills refresh and upgrade the knowledge of dance.
I hope you will browse the website and if you need more information or have any questions please email me [email protected]
I look forward to welcoming you to the Devon Dance Centre
