DESCRIPTION:Taken from the ISTD website \n\n\n\nCecchetti Day 2024\nJacqueline Lewis\, ISTD Cecchetti Classical Ballet Faculty Committee member tells us about an inspiring day of dance at Cecchetti Day 2024. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt was wonderful to see so many Cecchetti students and teachers from across Europe attending Cecchetti Day this year at The Royal Ballet School on Sunday 21 April. \nThe day began with Lucy Pohl teaching a fun class with lots of exciting and creative ideas\, showing the importance of imagination\, musicality and creativity when teaching young children. \nFollowing this inspiring class\, Competition and Award winners took to the stage. It was impressive to see the high standard of the Cecchetti Award winners from 2022 and 2023\, each performing their solos with ease and grace. \nWe were then treated to two contrasting performances by the Cecchetti scholars. The junior dance Echoes\, choreographed by Katie Kelly and the senior dance Valse Classique\, choreographed by Carolyn Parker. \nAfter a scrumptious lunch\, which gave us all a chance to catch up with fellow teachers\, we were pleased to be informed by Gillian Hurst and Kate Simmons that the 2024 inaugural CICB Outstanding International Contribution and Dedication Award had been awarded to Richard Glasstone MBE. \nIn the afternoon\, we were all delighted to watch Jessica Clarke coaching RBS Upper students in a demonstration\, focusing on rotation through the shoulders and a sense of opposition through the torso. \nTo end what had been an incredible day\, Bethany Kingsley-Garner coached dancers of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in David Dawson’s modern take on the classic Swan Lake. \nCongratulations to all who took part in this important day in the Cecchetti calendar. \nWritten by: Jacqueline Lewis\, ISTD Cecchetti Classical Ballet Faculty Committee member \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Devon Dance Centre was proud to present our performance of “Spring into Dance” in aid of the Children’s Society on Saturday 23rd March 2024. All of our students at Devon Dance Centre took part in the fundraising event\, and the venue\, St Mary the Virgin Church\, was full. \nWe had Mermaids\, Beetles and Bugs\, Teddy Bear’s Picnics and some very naughty school children taking part\, with numbers inspired by Matilda the Musical\, The Little Mermaid\, We’re going on a Bear Hunt and the true story of Ma Baker. \nWe were proud to announce that we have raised £362.84 for charity\, and 100% of donations made will go directly to the Children’s Society. All of us at Devon Dance Centre would like to thank our pupils\, teachers\, parents and audience for supporting this event

SUMMARY:Richard Glasstone MBE awarded Fellowship Award
DESCRIPTION:An Honorary Fellow is described in the Society’s Rules and Standing Orders as being awarded for ‘exceptionally meritorious services to the art of dancing.’ As such it is the highest mark of honour that the Society confers. \nAs a world-leading authority on teaching the Cecchetti method\, and a pillar of the Cecchetti Society and Faculty for more than six decades\, Council were unanimous in their decision to bestow this award upon Richard.  The presentation was made by Head of Faculty Development – Cecchetti Classical Ballet\, Philippa McMeechan\, on Tuesday 13 June. \nThe many books and articles Richard has written and the films that have been made of his teaching and choreography will serve as an enduring legacy. His innumerable students across the world\, who are now teachers and dance directors themselves\, are sharing his knowledge and wisdom in every class they give for the benefit of current and future generations. \nCongratulations to Mr. Richard Glasstone MBE on the presentation of this Award.

SUMMARY:Performing at the 80th Commemoration of the Bombing of St Mary the Virgin church
DESCRIPTION:On Monday 29th May 2023\, Devon Dance Centre were privileged to be invited to perform at the vigil service to commemorate the lives lost when a Nazi attack affected the Sunday School\, killing 23 children and 3 Sunday school teachers. The comments we have recieved from the community have been amazing\, and we look forward to other opportunities that may arise in the future!
